Forest Hills Penthouse

The homeowners, a young family who enjoys cooking and entertaining, envisioned an open, cozy, and sophisticated space to create lasting memories. Originally separated from the dining and living areas, the kitchen had last been renovated over fifteen years ago and featured outdated elements. The renovation involved opening the kitchen up to the dining area, allowing for additional light and creating a seamless flow between the living spaces. A new central island with breakfast seating now serves as the heart of the home. Warm wooden cabinetry, neutral tones, and hidden appliances make the space both inviting and functional for cooking, living, and entertaining.

The island measures nearly 8 feet long. In an apartment building, elevator size limitations posed a challenge. Fortunately, the installers were willing to carry the island stone up the stairs 10 flights to avoid any seams.

The bedrooms were refreshed and redecorated, while the primary and guest bathrooms were revitalized with mosaic marble tiles and large-format wall tiles. Fortunately, the building's wet-over-dry policy was not in effect here, allowing us to enlarge the primary bathroom by creating a larger shower and adding a double vanity.

The original herringbone floors were refinished to minimize waste and preserve their classic charm.

A standout feature of the penthouse is the 600-square-foot exterior terrace, which was also updated and refurnished. This space now provides a relaxing retreat with stunning views of the Manhattan skyline.

The wall separating the kitchen and dining room needed to be removed according to our revised layout. This required building permits, but fortunately, it was not a structural wall. We were able to remove it to create an open concept space for the young clients.
